Growing Older: Navigating Uncharted Waters – APRIL 9–16, 2016 COUNTY GALWAY

April 9, 2016 @ 8:00 am - April 16, 2016 @ 5:00 pm

Growing Older: Navigating Uncharted Waters According to many schools of psychology, the development of our personality takes shape between birth and adolescence—or early adulthood at the latest. However, for Jung, our development does not remain fixed and is capable of continued growth. As he describes it, we can, and should, keep developing and individuating throughout our life cycle. The important point to remember is that during any major shift in our development, life does not continue as it has always been. We must be ready to make changes and adapt if we are to remain psychologically and physically healthy. Recent research has shown that the human brain can remain active, creative, and highly functional during our later years. Too often, we forget that our mental and spiritual health is less a matter of fate than it is a matter of choice. We can either shrink from life, or enlarge it by engaging the passions of our soul, mining the richness of our true Self, and living the life we truly want to live. The importance of self-reflection and personal growth is paramount at any stage of our lives but is all the more so as we move into our later years, when we should ask ourselves, in different ways than we might have before: What is the meaning of our lives? What has it been until now, and what will it take to remain true to our Self and find meaning in our lives during this later stage? Through a combination of presentations, workshops, sharing, dialogue, and discussion led by a distinguished and experienced faculty, the focus of this seminar will be to help us explore this vital and all important period of our lives.…

Election 2016 – An Archetypal Perspective

September 16, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Grace Place 637 S. Dearborn Ave, Chicago, IL IL United States + Google Map

Panel: Achilles & Athena Ashok Bedi, MD Lynne Copp, PhD Victoria Drake, PhD September 16, 25pm The current election atmosphere in the USA is profoundly challenging and confusing as we face one of the most disruptively polarizing times in our political sphere ever. How could we deepen the seeming oppositional energies embodied by our two party system to explore what they might be asking of us, mirroring for us, as a collective? One way through this chaotic field is to open up the mythic perspectives of Achilles and Athena to inquire what they have to say for our time in the 21st century. In this communal discussion we will explore the mythological roots of the 2016 presidential campaigns in order to deepen our understanding of the polarizing energies emerging in our country and to imagine ways beyond them. September 16, 25pm Grace Place 637 S. Dearborn Ave, Chicago, IL MAP $30 at the door There is no RSVP or preregistration for this event. Payments will be accepted at the event. Cash or check only. While most of us remain unconscious of this Faustian Bargain, often, life, circumstances, relationship problems, complexes, Medical, Psychiatric and Addiction problems force us to reckon with the Devil Goethe’s Faust captivated Jung’s psyche and was his inner guide both in his own individuation and evolution of his Analytical Psychology. It guided Jung from his personal myth of a Hero as young Faust to his emergent myth of the Wise Old Man – Philemon. The myth of Faust will be explored from an analytical perspective as depicted in the Collected works, the Red Book and MDR as elaborated by Carl Jung in his writings to amplify the Analytical Management of our deal with the Devil and its optimal resolution. Jung on the Hudson 2017

July 16, 2017 @ 8:00 am - July 21, 2017 @ 5:00 pm

The ability to self-reflect and be honest with oneself is a key to one’s emotional health and individuation process. This crucial component is important at any stage of life but all the more so as we age and want to feel that our lives have meaning. As we grow older, it is imperative to keep in mind that life will not continue as it has until now. Physically and psychologically, we are changing. Welcome or not, our bodies transmit messages that we need to be attuned to; and our psyches and our souls require equal attention. We can face these demands and push ourselves into uncomfortable terrain, or ignore what may be our last opportunity to move forward. As we enter later life, we should ask ourselves what we want to save and what we want to let go of and if there is any unfinished business that we have avoided addressing. Are there friends, family, loved ones, or life partners toward whom we still hold grudges? Have we truly worked through our own shadow issues? Have we learned to accept ourselves and appreciate our talents and the blessings in our lives? Have we been paying attention to our dreams? Are they different in substance as we grow older? Now that there are fewer years ahead of us and time is more valuable in many ways, is it healthier to sever connections with those who have hurt us and who surround us with negative energy? Or should we use this time to make amends and try to repair relationships that have gone awry? Are there goals we once aspired to but have not met? Is there a book we still are hoping to write, an…

September 15, 2017 - September 16, 2017

Jung’s Analytical Psychology draws heavily from the Eastern Spiritual Traditions. In his Magnum Opus—the Mysterium Coniunctionis, Jung presented his highest synthesis of the Alchemy of the Individuation process. These include Alchemic movement from Unio Naturalis, Unio Mentalis, Unio Spiritualis, and Unio Corporalis to Unus Mundus. This presentation will explore the Eastern perspective on the Individuation process amplifying each of these stages from an Eastern perspective. These will be further explored with Archetypes of the Eastern and Hindu traditions and clinical material. Time permitting, we will engage the archetypes of the Hindu Trinity of Brahma and Sarasvati, the creators, Vishnu and Laxmi- the Preserves of consciousness and Shiva and Shakti—the destroyers of the Shadow making room for creation of New Consciousness. Basics of Kundalini Yoga as the archetype of higher Coniunctio may be explored.

Technology is moving forward at an exponential pace. The standard of material living is gradually rising in the industrialized and developing nations. We are exploring and exploiting the treasures of Mother Earth, sometimes enhancing but more often depleting the resources for our grandchildren and future generations. What kind of legacy are we leaving for future generations? As individuals, families, and communities, what emotional ledger sheet are we leaving for the future? Who will retire the consequences of karma we leave behind, when we leave this life with unfinished business? They have been consulted since antiquity to guide us. There is reference to the use of dreams in the Old Testament. Sigmund Freud put the use of dreams in the analysis of the unconscious in his classic work – The Interpretation of Dreams. Carl Jung took the interpretation of Dreams to a whole new threshold, not just to unlock the past but the guide the future course of our lives – The Teleologic dimension of dreams. He emphasized the subjective, objective, diagnostic, prognostic, the Teleologic and the great significance of the Initial and other Big dreams in guiding the course of the therapeutic work and the individuation process. When beginning to interpret a dream, Jung suggested that we ask the question: what conscious attitude does the dream compensate?  Jung believed that dreams are “to be regarded with due seriousness as an actuality that has to be fitted into the conscious attitude as a codetermining factor” (Jung, CW 16).   This seminar on Analytic Technique will pursue this and other questions concerning the use of dreams in clinical practice. The class discussions will focus on the theoretical ideas outlined in the required readings as well as the dreams presented by participants from their clinical practices.  This seminar will also provide a forum within which candidates can apply the theoretical concepts being explored in their other classes to the process of working with dreams.…
